Our name, Zwinger vom Roten Wald (Kennel of the Redwood Forest) was chosen to reflect the area in which we live. The Coast Redwood Tree is native only to the California coast from Monterey to the southwestern part of Oregon. Although many coast redwoods have been cut, some are protected in Muir Woods, Redwood National Park, and many California and Oregon state parks. Redwoods are evergreen conifers. Coast Redwoods grow very tall, often 200 feet, with the tallest at 367 feet, which is the tallest living thing! The trunks can grow to 14 feet with bark that is 6 to 12 inches thick.
